Description

Local goddess of Hinamizawa and ancestor of Rika Furude. During the events of the Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni story, she is the reason for Rika's ability to loop and repeat the events of the "Endless June." She also has a history of her own prior to the events of the Higurashi main story, being the wife of Riku Furude and mother of Ouka Furude generations before Rika's appearance. She is the origin of "Demon's Blood" within the Furude family bloodline. Her name "Hanyuu" was given to her by Riku because her original name - Hairyuun Iesomuuru Jeda - was too long and difficult to remember. While she bears the appearance of a horned demon and is generally referred to as one, she is actually an alien from an unspecified origin, her race only being referred to as "Hanyuu's People." She has long, lilac colored hair with matching but darker purple eyes. Upon her head are two downward-pointed horns, the left of which (her left) is cracked. She wears various clothes throughout her appearances, but is frequently depicted wearing clothes akin to a shrine maiden's wear with pink (in some cases white) detached sleeves, a school attire consisting of a light blue vest over a white short-sleeve undershirt and a red plaid skirt, or a pink one-piece casual dress with medium skirt length. Her physical appearance varies, appearing around 11 years old in some cases but taking on the appearance of a young adult in others. This appearance disparity is easiest to see when comparing her physical manifestation during certain chapters of the story to her spiritual form, the latter of which has subtle but still more noticeable curves and is certainly the more mature look. She hates spicy food, but loves sweets. Her favorites are cream puffs. She also has three catchphrases, "Auau," "nanodesu," and "Gomenasai," the first being the more common of the two and can be used either as a upset or happy expression.
