Amelia Ruth

Amelia Ruth is a supporting character from Jun Mochizuki's The Case Study of Vanitas. She is the first Vampire whom Noé witnesses being cured of Malnomen by Vanitas using the Book of Vanitas. Her case is the inciting incident that first brings together Vanitas and Noé, spurring them on to work together to heal curse-bearers all throughout Paris. Amelia's True Name had been corrupted by Naenia sometime before her trip to Paris, which was for the purpose of seeking out a doctor for said Malnomen. Despite being cured easily, Amelia is taken into custody by Count Orlok who deems her dangerous for simply having contracted a Malnomen at all and orders for her execution. But thanks to the efforts of Vanitas and Noé, Amelia escapes her deadly fate under the condition that she remain under Count Orlok's watch. She is then employed as a live-in maid at Hôtel Chouchou, where Vanitas and Noé reside, occasionally assisting them in everyday menial tasks. Amelia is a young woman with light brown hair that she wears pulled back in a braided bun, with matching light brown eyes. She initially appears wearing a frilly white shirt under a purple romantic shrug, a pink hat, a long pink skirt paired with a pink corset. After becoming a maid at Hôtel Chouchou, Amelia wears a dark magenta floral-patterned dress, a french maid apron, and a cloth bun cover. In the anime, her maid dress doesn't have a pattern, being instead a flat magenta color. Amelia is a kind, polite, and good-natured person. She also has a very joyful demeanor around people, easily getting along with others, and she seems to be good at reading people, quickly learning how to understand Vanitas' moods and personality as well as Noé's. She is easily flustered, and is frequently seen with a light blush on her cheeks. Despite almost being executed under Count Orlok's orders, she holds no ill will towards him, and seems to enjoy her job as a maid provided by him. Amelia seems to enjoy being helpful, often offering snacks to Noé and Vanitas — and even to Dante — and frequently offering her assistance as well. She is naturally curious and likes to observe the residents of the hotel, mainly Noé and Vanitas. She keeps track of their silly arguments as well as the trinkets Noé brings to their shared room, and even catches glimpses of Nox and Manet watching Murr from afar. Despite that curiosity, Amelia is also very tactful when the situation calls for it, as seen when she offers to grab breakfast for Noé so that he wouldn't interrupt Dominique's conversation with Jeanne in the hotel's restaurant. Prior to being cured of her Malnomen, Amelia suffered frequent fainting spells.
