A tomboy princess who prides herself on her swimming ability. The princess of the land of Aethiopia, which may or may not correspond to the modern-day country Ethiopia. She is described within Greek mythology as a young girl offered up in sacrifice to a sea monster to appease the wrath of the gods after her mother, Cassiopeia, boasted her beauty (or in some sources, her daughter's beauty) surpassed that of all the maidens of the sea (Nereides), consequently incurring not only their wrath, but also that of Poseidon.
