Binchō-tan

Binchō-tan is a mascot character created by manga artist Takahito Ekusa and produced by game goods company Alchemist. Her name is a play on the words binchōtan (備長炭), which is a type of charcoal, and -tan, which is a suffix created by the mispronunciation of -san by young children. Stemming from this, she and the other characters in her anime/manga are moe anthropomorphic representations of different types of charcoal. Binchō-tan is depicted as wearing a block of charcoal on her head to pronounce this fact. Binchō-tan is a young girl who lives alone in an old house in the mountains. Her everyday life consists of going to town to work, gathering vegetables in the forest, and doing household chores. She is surrounded by a group of close friends who add color to this ordinary yet simple life.
