On October 6, U.C. 0079, Elen Willard served as the co-pilot and navigator for a cargo transport carrying Federation soldiers to Earth. When the ship picked up a distress signal from Terry Sanders Jr.'s RGM-79, GM Early Type, Shiro Amada, one of the Federation soldiers on board, asked to assist him. Willard explained that while the ship does have a RB-79K Ball Type K armed with a "fifteen caliber", they would be unable to change course. When Shiro decided to deploy in the Ball anyway, she opened the hatch and disengaged the locks on the Ball.
