Falkner appears in Gold and Silver, Crystal and HeartGold, and SoulSilver, where he is the first Gym Leader the player faces. A master of the Flying type, Valerio manages the Violapoli Gym inherited from his father. In the game, Valerio's father is mentioned but never seen. Known as the elegant flying-type Pokémon master, Falkner is much admired for being a very smart and charming type, but is overshadowed by his father's notoriety.
