Hana Mitani

Nozomi's other childhood friend who is the current head of the declining Jinguuji Yakuza family, inheriting the role after the sudden death of the previous boss. She uses what underworld connections she has to aid in the start up of Valkyria as a way to bring in more income to her struggling organization. Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: Hana is a self-deprecating Nervous Wreck who is prone to panicking when facing imminent danger. But she is also the farthest thing from helpless, as she is a suprisingly talented martial artist in her own right who in Chapter 26 is able to immediatley defeat Karen Watanabe by turning her own Shock Stick against her when the assassin tried to jump her in the shower. The Grappler: Hana is, pound-for-pound, the best grappler out of the Valkyria's three managers. Being able to quickly subdue a Professional Killer like Karen Watanabe within seconds of starting their match. But because she hasn't been keeping up with her combat training since high-school, her skills are rusty and prevents her from properly scoring a straight win against Karen. That said, Hana does effortlessly counter Karen's later attempt to assassinate her in the shower, heavily implying that the Yakuza Boss could've taken the hitwoman down in the ring even while out of shape. Heroic Sacrifice: In order to stop Nozomi from participating in the exhibition against Slaughter Colosseum since everybody else was still recovering from injuries from the last tournament, Hana decides to enlist herself instead in spite of the fact that she apparently has not trained in combat since high school. While she initially puts up an impressive fight against Karen, her stamina is nowhere near what's required for the competition she's faced with, making her take a dive by baiting a knockout before Karen could outright kill her with her Absurdly Sharp Claws. Hidden Depths: Despite not giving off the impression of being a fighter in any capacity she is extremely agile and has talent for grappling that makes her surprisingly competent in a fight, even if she has little to no skill in striking. When she joins the roster for the Slaughter Coliseum exhibition, Ichika's first thought is that "No matter who [she] fights, it's pretty much over."note Know When to Fold 'Em: After realizing she's too out of shape to take Karen down for the count, especially when the assassin is armed with Absurdly Sharp Claws that could kill her in the ring if she cuts an artery, Hana intentionally throws the fight by baiting Karen into giving her No-Holds-Barred Beatdown so the referee can call the fight with her life still intact. Throwing the fight also allows the Slaughter Colosseum to save face, making the matches appear more even than be a outright steamroll in Valkyria's favor. Nervous Wreck: She is prone to start freaking out whenever she thinks her, Nozomi, or Ichika are in danger. The most notable example is when they first meet (and kidnap) Hina, where she quickly becomes absolutely terrified by her. This even feeds into her fighting style, as its centered entirely around defense. Parental Favoritism: Chairman Niwa was Sworn Brothers with Hana's old man and treats her as if she was his own flesh and blood. This is the reason why no mob has ever made a move on the Jinguuji even while the organization was in decline prior to Valkyria's creation, as no one in their right mind was willing to draw Niwa's wrath by messing with her. Chapter 19 has the Niwa Clan's second-in-commands outright spell out that the Chairman has been supporting Mitani's family behind the scenes, and approves of Valkyria, just to make clear how off-limits the Jinguuji Family is. Stone Wall: By virtue of being a Martial Pacifist, Hana spent her high-school years training in defensive and evasion related techniques so she could avoid getting hit while strictly abstaining from striking her opponents. This has granted her the best defensive capabilities out of Valkyria's three leaders at the cost of not being able to throw a punch to save her own life. Yakuza Princess: Her father was the Jinguuji family's previous boss and her mother was his consort. The position of new boss immediately falls on her after her father's death, even though she really wasn't equipped to handle the role.
