Honiden Matahachi

Matahachi is one of the main characters in the series and a childhood friend of Musashi Miyamoto. He was an illegitimate son of a mistress and the previous Honiden head; being born not so long before his father died. His grandmother, Osugi Honiden, adopted him as her own son since the Honiden had no other heir. He later became best friends with Shinmen Takezo, they played and practiced sword fighting together.
