Initially as a child Ayu was kind and friendly. As the oldest girl in Ideal, she was looked up to by the other girls as an older-sister. Indeed she loved and cared for them so much that she chose herself to be removed from the special experiment that was presumably help them become Level 5s instead of choosing anybody else.[2] When she met Yuuri Senya, she felt sorry and pity for her, and was lectured by her and telling her to treat her normally, leading to learning a lesson in not assuming how other people felt. Due to not being saved by Touma in contrast to Shokuhou Misaki, who was saved by him and was also chosen over her to become a Level 5, Ayu bears an immense grudge against Shokuhou Misaki, to the extent that she wishes to steal the happy memories that Misaki has of him for her and her alone.
