Rumi

Rumi is a character in Persona 5 Royal. She is Takuto Maruki's ex-girlfriend. On one February 3rd, years prior to the events of Persona 5, both of Rumi's parents were murdered during a home invasion while she and Maruki were about to be wed. This caused her to fall into a catatonic depression, and Maruki was left mourning and guilt-ridden. She remained unresponsive during his hospital visits until he mentioned her family, which triggered her PTSD and caused her to break down. Desperate to help her, a mysterious entity reached out to Maruki. Afterward, Rumi's memories were altered: she believed she's had health complications all her life, that her parents died young and that she lives with her grandparents. She no longer recognized Maruki and to keep her happy, he distanced himself from her, telling her that his girlfriend had died. The protagonist does not personally meet Rumi, though Maruki mentions her in Rank 8 of his Confidant. During Rank 9, he tells the protagonist that she motivated his research.
