Shanghai is one of the secondary characters in the Sonny Boy series. Shanghai is a foreign transfer student, almost certainly from China (given her name and language). She often hangs out with Ace, perhaps being his girlfriend. Some time after the class starts drifting through the darkness, Shanghai cooperates with Asakaze and another student in their attempted coup against the student council, having been told that Cap would not be able to give them "penalties". However, she ends up getting a penalty anyway and forced to do sit-ups for some time. After the class ends up in the island world, Shanghai lives along with Ace and a number of other students in a colorful house deep in the forest. She is seen sitting next to a "No Cats Allowed" sign, perhaps indicating her dislike of Mizuho. She speaks solely in Shanghainese (a dialect of Wu Chinese). Shanghai seems to keep her distance from Nagara, Mizuho and Nozomi, and she treats them abrasively when they approach Ace to borrow the "Monkey Getter" flashlight. Her power, called "Electric Shock", allows her to control electromagnetic field.
