Shiva

She is a human that was found in the Outside by Auntie before the start of the series. She was thought to be cursed and was to be executed, but was left abandoned with a note and was found by Teacher. She was later touched by an outsider but is unique, because even though she is cursed, she isn't becoming an Outsider. Auntie states that the reason she is immune is because she has been a good girl, and the gods are rewarding her. Teacher seems to have a different idea why she is immune to the curse, but it is yet to be revealed what that idea is. The Priest seems to want Shiva for unknown reasons, possibly because of her immunity. Shiva is naive and sheltered. As the series starts, she seems to only remember living with Teacher, who is always trying to keep her safe and indoors. She can be gullible, as seen when Auntie tells her that Teacher is bad. She instantly believes it, despite trusting Teacher prior to that conversation. She has a childish sense of right and wrong, with a limited view of why people would hurt others, and difficulty distinguishing degrees of danger. When she asks a ruthless soldier if he has seen her auntie, she is shocked that he would fire arrows at her although she didn't do something to him. She also begs Teacher to stop hacking apart the headless outsider, even though she also felt very threatened by him. She very slowly becomes less trusting, as seen when she makes Auntie apologize to Teacher, and when she hides from soldiers in Auntie's Hamlet. Shiva is a young 10 year old girl with white neck-length hair and black round eyes. She is almost always seen wearing a white button up dress and black boots.
