Tsubame Iwato is a character in Suzume. She is the late biological mother of Suzume Iwato and older sister of Tamaki Iwato. After giving birth to Suzume, Tsubame raised her as a single mother in Akamae, Iwate Prefecture. On May 24, 2010, she crafted a wooden chair as a birthday gift to her daughter. She died on March 11, 2011 during the Great East Japan Earthquake, just one day after her 34th birthday.
