Yūbari

夕張 (Named after the Yuubari River) Yuubari is the personification of the experimental and unique Yuubari-class light cruiser in Kantai Collection. She is voiced by Bridcutt Sarah Emi and was designed by Konishi. She wears a dark blue serafuku with a light green collar, an orange neckerchief tied into a bow, a green skirt and black pantyhose. She has medium-length greenish-grey hair in a ponytail secured with a teal hair bow. In the anime she also serves as the fleet's mechanic (due to the absence of Akashi) and wears an alternate outfit consisting of orange coveralls over a tank top. Heavily associated with melons (more specifically, cantaloupes), due to her name (Yuubari city in Hokkaido is famous for its cantaloupes) and her color scheme and her general resemblance to a cantaloupe. This has led to fans giving her the nickname "Melon-chan" or just "Melon". She loves anime and even stays up late at night to watch them (most anime air late night) as shown by her 01:00 hourly line. Because she was built as an experimental ship to test new designs and configuration, Yuubari is very often portrayed tinkering with or designing new equipment, frequently together with Akashi. Historically, Yuubari's survivors were rescued by Samidare, so the two are commonly depicted together, often in a big sister/little sister or romantic relationship.
